Over the past year, I’ve spoken with nonprofit leaders, business owners, executives, and project teams who all arrive at the same question:
“Which AI tool should we buy?”
It’s almost always the wrong question.
Before selecting any platform, an organization needs to know what business problem it’s actually trying to solve, whether its data is in a condition to support AI, whether its people are prepared to use it responsibly, who owns governance and oversight, and how success will be measured.
These aren’t implementation details. They’re prerequisites.
Too many organizations start with technology and work backward.
The organizations seeing the greatest value are doing the opposite.
They start with strategy, assess their data, prepare their people, evaluate technology, and establish governance. Only after those pieces are in place do they begin selecting tools.
This sequence became the foundation of the StAIR-Ready™ framework because successful AI adoption is rarely about the tool itself. It’s about organizational readiness.
AI is moving fast.
But readiness still matters. In fact, it matters more than ever.
The question isn’t whether your organization will use AI.
The question is whether you’ll be prepared when you do.
What’s the one readiness gap you think leaders underestimate most before they begin their AI journey?
